Breaking news right there. Windsor, Oakeshott back Labor, "in the greater good, in the greater public interest."

Oakeshott expecting "some blisters" in backlash about the decision from the media. Media much more likely to criticise how long they took to make a decision.

Does Australian news extend beyond the obituary section, of late?

Anyone who visits Ninemsn News surely knows that the selection of news posted on the page is designed for entertainment as much as it is information. Which might explain my fascination with it.  Which begs the question: why does Ninemsn think that the Australian concept of news and newsworthy material is so morbid?  And are they correct?

According to columnist Michael Kinsley, there is no future for the feature. Yes, I'm talking about journalism. Mr. Kinsley's used his column in The Atlantic to express his opinion that the new age of journalism ought to be short and sweet. He asserts that 'hard' news, in which the writer aims to be as succinct as possible, is the only way to hold the attention of readers in today's age. And yet, he managed to use almost 2000 words to do so. I agree with The Punch's stance on the matter. To write 2000 words of engaging, quality content is an art equal to brevity. What do you think?

A much appreciated tipoff from a friend, who for the sake of his undercover superhero antics and whatnot shall remain anonymous, revealed this gem for an opinion essay posted on current affairs virtual debating site The Punch:

You won't believe the findings of this research.

Of the 237 reasons an American research team gleaned out of the responses from over a thousand women worldwide, not one of them reported in the article released on the Ninemsn news website (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/927795/the-237-reasons-why-women-have-s...) suggested that women had sex for any reason that was not attached to a narcissistic motivation.

Not compared to this woman. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/927890/woman-passes-drivers-exam-on-950... Imagine spending around two grand a year for almost five years just applying for your driver's test. That's right. Just sitting the written component required as a pre-requisite to sitting the actual test. You do that every single day. And, 950 tries later, you scrape through with the absolute minimum amount of knowledge required by law to dignify your participation in the practical component of the driver's test. The implications raised by this case are just mind boggling.
