IBM at War with a Different Sort of Virus

The computer company IBM is developing a new kind of technology to fight bacterial infections within the human body. Working with the Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology in Singapore, they have produced biodegradable plastic nanoparticles which target and kill bacteria, even those which are resistant to antibiotic treatment.

Phone app helps drivers avoid police cameras

New mobile phone application, Trapster, may be helping motorists to avoid getting caught speeding and drink driving. It gives drivers substitute routes in the hopes of circumventing booze buses and speed cameras.

The application can be used in iPhones and Blackberrys, but is also accessible through some Nokia phones and other mobiles accommodating GPS.

The winners of last year's Student Entrepreneurs IdeaPitch competition have started their own business, launching a website which offers Melburnians discounts of up to 80%.

Their website, Crowdmass, aims to provide Melburnians with bargains on selected goods and services while guaranteeing local businesses a novel way of attracting new costumers.

The business is the brainchild of three 21-year-olds: Monash IT Graduate, David Wei; Swinburne IT Graduate, Tim Wu; and University of Melbourne Commerce and Law student, Ying Wang.
