Changes to the Site Structure
If you have visited News Hit anytime within the last 24 hours you will have noticed some changes that we've made to the structure of the site. The old section names have been done away with and some new section headings have been put into place.
As some of the site's content has been moved into new categories, here is a breakdown of the changes we've made to News Hit's structure.
- The old Serious Hit section has been bisected into News Features and Commentary. We felt that this was the right thing to do since we want to keep factual reporting and opinion pieces separate.
- The old Media Hit section has been removed. Cartoons and Animations have been moved into the Humour section. Also, Animations have been amalgamated into Cartoons.
- The old Lit Hit section has been removed. Short Stories have been absorbed into the Life section and can now be found under Stories.
- The Humour section's Vichy Leaks are no more and have been absorbed into Fake News.
The News Hit Contributors Wall
The News Hit contributors wall has also been altered. Instead of being an undifferentiated wall of faces, it has now been divided up in terms of contributors' roles at News Hit.
Running along the bottom of the wall there are now three tabs: Editors, Regular Contributors and Contributors. The first tab, Editors, which appears by default whenever the page is loaded, brings up the photos and profiles of News Hit's section editors and sub editors.
The second tab, Regular Contributors, displays the photos and profiles of people who have contributed three or more articles to News Hit.
The third tab, Contributors, displays a list of the names of the people who have contributed less than three articles to News Hit. Although the names of everyone here can still be clicked to bring up their News Hit profiles, we will now be making contributor pages for people once they have contributed three articles to News Hit. However, anyone who has an article pending at this point in time is still entitled to a News Hit profile.
We have decided to revise the contributors wall in order to make it easier to navigate and to prevent it from taking up too much space. Conversely, in regards to contributor profiles, we decided to make it our policy to only create the profiles (consisting of a photo, bio, RSS feed and 'contribtuor' level permissions in the News Hit account) for people who have written three or more articles for News Hit because of the time involved in putting together profiles.
