Bones - "The Beginning in the End" (Season Final)
Programming: Sunday’s at 8:30PM, Channel 7
Running time: 60 minutes
Rating: M
Well, if you’re still stewing over the ‘dream sequence’ finale of last season, in which Bones and Booth are an expecting married couple, then this episode may be a little more to your taste. There are no dreams, no comatose imaginings, and no hallucinations. This is reality; at least, TV reality.
You may have heard the rumour that Bones creator Hart Hanson was planning to connect this episode with the finale of Season Four. Indeed, the titles do it in themselves. From “The End in the Beginning” to “The Beginning in the End”, these titles were supposed to signify that something from that dream sequence was going to occur in reality. Unfortunately it’s not that obvious; I’m still trying to find the link. So now I’m just left to ask; what is beginning, and what is ending?
Well the obvious ending is that of a life; the life of our murder victim who has been decaying in his hideously messy apartment before falling through the roof of the apartment below. Enter Booth; ready to search the crime scene, Bones; distracted by the discovery of early skeletons in Indonesia, and Sweets; ready to psychologically assess the victim as a stage 5 hoarder. But in this episode, our murderer is not the main issue. Our focus is with Booth and Bones, and the upcoming decisions they must make.
Bones, obviously shaken from her encounter with the Gravedigger in the last episode, is clearly eager to be involved in the study of the aforementioned skeletons. Especially after discovering intern Daisy Wick has been selected on her recommendation. Booth insists that they have their jobs at the Jeffersonian, but his job with the FBI is also in question. He has been approached by an American soldier who requests that Booth returns to Afghanistan to train snipers in covert operations. Perhaps their ordinary jobs aren’t so important anymore.
There are a few other things that need to be resolved; Angela’s father returns to test Hodgins, and Sweets and Daisy must decide where their relationship can lead while she works in Indonesia and he stays with the FBI.
With the programming of Channel 7, who knows how long we’ll have to wait before Season 6 is aired – yes, it is already in production. No doubt it will be somewhere towards the end of the year. But for now, sit back and enjoy this finale. This is an episode of changes, but what the results of that are we won’t know until next season.
“The Beginning in the End” will air on Sunday 6th June at 8:30PM on Channel 7.
